La French Tech Beijing is launching Tech & Tonic, a deliberately small-scale format: a handful of people, a drink or a burger in hand, and one tech topic on the table. The aim isn't to run a conference but to create the conditions for a real conversation, where everyone can ask their questions and talk about what they're working on.
For this first episode, ten of us gathered at Homeplate to talk about AI agents. A good turnout for a launch. The evening opened with a hands-on account of building and running agents, but the discussion quickly widened. Everyone shared how they actually use AI day to day, what they've experimented with, what worked and what didn't.
The group brought together very different profiles, from people already building their own agents to others discovering the subject. Part of the evening therefore went into setting out the vocabulary and clarifying how these systems work, which benefited everyone: explaining something simply is still the best way to check you've understood it.
From there the conversation moved on to good practices, then to each participant's own projects. People laid out what they would like to automate or build with agents, and ideas flowed freely between those who have already got their hands dirty and those just starting out.
Short on paper, dense in practice. Which was exactly the point.
